Ever since I was a kid, I have loved summer vacation. this list of the best countries to visit in July provides 21 amazing vacation ideas for a summer trip.

From the national parks of the United States to the beaches of Portugal, there are vacations for all travel styles.

I have been to many of these countries and highly recommend them. I also reached out to some travel blogger friends for their top picks so this list represents the absolute best July trip ideas.

North America

1. Canada

A land of vast wilderness, vibrant cities, and the iconic Northern Lights.

While Canada can be a great destination at any time of year, there’s no better time to visit than July.

In July, Canada’s weather is ideal. The brutal winters Canada is famous for are nowhere in sight, and much of the country avoids the stiflingly hot summer weather you’ll find elsewhere in North America.

On a trip to Canada in July, the best thing to do is explore the Canadian Rockies. Banff National Park is perhaps the most famous attraction in the Rockies, and it’s full of amazing things to do.

Whether you’re into hiking, beautiful lakes, lovely small towns, historic hotels, or all of the above, you’ll find plenty to love in Banff and the surrounding areas.

Canada’s cities are also wonderful in July. I especially recommend visiting Quebec City, which holds a famous music festival in the first half of July. Explore the city by day, soaking up the charming European vibes, then catch a show at night.

The only downside to visiting Canada in July is that many other tourists will be doing the same, since it’s such a perfect time to visit. Book your trip well in advance, before the best accommodations are sold out!

July is a festive time to travel to the United States. From coast to coast, the country is alive with warm weather, Fourth of July celebrations, and even the coldest national parks are all operating in full swing.

A big reason to see the USA in July is for the nation’s Independence Day celebrations on the 4th of July. You’ll find fabulous fireworks, parades, and concerts everywhere in cities across the country, from Navy Pier in Chicago to the Santa Monica Pier in LA.

The warm July weather opens up endless outdoor adventures across the United States. There are 63 national parks across the country, with a combined thousands of hiking trails to astonishing landscapes and wildlife sighting opportunities.

Some of the most bucket-list-worthy ones are spending a day in Yellowstone, Zion, or the Grand Canyon.

Even in places with a freezing environment for half the year, like Alaska, July is one of the few months to hike Denali or visit Glacier Bay National Park.

However, the popularity of this month means that tourist spots can be crowded, and prices for flights and accommodations may be higher.

If you are looking for a great place to travel to in July, you should put Isla Mujeres, Mexico on your shortlist! While there is no bad time to visit this island paradise, July is a particularly good time as it marks the peak of the Isla Mujeres Whale Shark Season.

These gentle giants migrate through the warm waters of the Mexican Caribbean every summer offering adventure seekers the opportunity to encounter them in the wild. 

Guided tours leave daily from the island taking small groups out to snorkel with the largest fish in the sea. The tour operators will provide everything you need including snorkel gear. When your whale shark encounter is over, spend the afternoon on Playa Norte, renowned as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

If there is a downside to visiting Isla Mujeres in July, it’s the heat. The temperature and the humidity during the summer months can be oppressive for some so plan to spend lots of time in the water.

This is also during hurricane season in the region which is certainly something to consider when making your travel plans. I recommend purchasing travel insurance that covers you in case you need to postpone or cancel your trip due to storms.

Curacao is known for the many colorful buildings that decorate Willemstad, its capital city. You can explore many colorful neighborhoods and take a walk on the Queen Emma Bridge, the pontoon swing bridge over St. Anna Bay. 

While Willemstad is one of the first stops for many tourists, there are many incredible natural attractions to explore in Curacao.

One of the most spectacular places to visit in Curacao is Shete Boka National Park, located on the north coast, 45 minutes from Willemstad.

At Shete Boka, you will see incredible views of the ocean waves pounding against the limestone cliffs of the north coast. There are several inlets to explore at Shete Boka, each more incredible than the previous one.

The soft sand beaches in Curacao are a great place to visit. The water is a clear, beautiful turquoise color, making the beach the perfect place to spend a day sunbathing, swimming, or snorkeling.

5. Peru

Did you know July is the season in Peru when the skies clear up enough so that you can experience Machu Picchu at its best?

July is part of the dry season in Peru, making it the perfect time to enjoy the weather in most of the country. Even though it’s winter, chances of rain are low, making it ideal if you want to hike the Inca Trail or explore less popular but equally stunning trails in nature. 

It’s also a great time to wander around the picturesque streets of Cusco, visit Inca ruins and old temples, and sip coca leaf tea on the balcony of your hotel while appreciating the surrounding mountains. 

The highlands in Peru aren’t as cold in July as they are in the rainy season, which goes from November to April. Then, you normally can have very cold nights, but in and around July, just a normal jacket will probably be enough if you are in the city.

The only downside of visiting Peru in July is that Lima will be cold and the skies will be grey. But it won’t rain there either, so it’s not really a problem.

During this time of the year, the island is beautifully green, filled with bright, blooming flowers, perfect for posting on your social media feeds.

Other key attractions include Terra Nostra Park, known for its thermal pool and botanical gardens and the Fumarolas’ geothermal sights, famous for it’s meals cooked in the ground using volcanic heat. Finally, Ponta Delgada, the main city, offers a peek into local life with its music and religious festivals and historic sites.

However, July’s popularity means more tourists and higher prices, so plan ahead.

Take advantage of the pleasant weather and head outside to explore the gorgeous landscapes of Scotland. For example, the Isle of Skye is one of its most stunning, where you’ll find rushing waterfalls, rugged coastline, and lots of adorable Highland Cows.

Denmark is perfect for visiting in July because it’s the warmest month, which in Denmark is cool by summer standards for many. The average temperature is 60 °F (16 °C), and it has the most daylight with 7-8 hours of sun.

July is the best time for outdoor activities. Some of the best things to do outdoors include visiting beaches and islands; head to Amager Strand and jump into the water from the Kastrup Søbad platform, for example! 

July is also one of the best times to explore cities like Copenhagen, where you can visit the palaces and museums, enjoy canal tours, explore Christiania and eat outdoors at spots like Vesterbro.

July is the warmest month in Iceland, so it is an ideal time to visit. In July, Iceland’s average temperature during the day ranges from 55 F (13 C) to about 68 F (20 C). So pleasant weather, coupled with extensive daylight, optimizes your summer experience in Iceland. Everything is open and accessible, and the roads are in great condition.

There is so much to do in Iceland in summer time. It is easy to rent a car and drive everywhere in the summer months in Iceland. The rugged natural landscape is easy one the eyes.

You get to chase waterfalls all over the country and admire purple hued lupine fields. The popular South Coast also has access to the largest glacier of the country, and more adventure activities than can be done in one trip.

Reykjavik and the popular Golden Circle stops are the most visited in Iceland. Also soak in the geothermal hot spring at Blue Lagoon or Sky lagoon.

Iceland is an expensive destination, even more so in the summer months. The only downside of visiting Iceland in July is that hotel and tour prices would be at their peak. So you need to book hotels, car, and tours much in advance.

We spend July in Sweden each year visiting family and we think it is the best time to visit! July is the warmest month of the year (temperatures averaging 18 degrees Celsius), with long daylight hours making it ideal for outdoor activities.

Additionally, Sweden hosts numerous events and festivals during this time. The biggest and most famous festival is the Midsummer celebrations.

Visitors can partake in traditional festivities like dancing around the maypole and indulging in traditional Swedish foods such as meatballs, sill (pickled herring), Gravlax (cured salmon), new potatoes with dill, and lots and lots of snaps!

Some of the best things to do in Sweden in July is exploring its stunning natural landscapes, including its vast forests, pristine lakes, and picturesque archipelagos. Some of our favorite’s are:

·       Do a road trip from Stockholm and visit the historical towns and attractions of Vasteras, Uppsala, Sigtuna, Eskilstuna, Sala, Strangnas and Birka.

·       Go sailing in the Stockholm archipelago.

·       Cruise Gota Canal from Gothenburg.

However, the potential downsides to visiting Sweden in July include higher prices for accommodation and tourist attractions due to peak season demand.

15. Seychelles

An archipelago of paradise islands, perfect for honeymooners and nature lovers.

For tropical beach lovers, Seychelles is one of the top countries to travel to in July. 

This archipelago in the Indian Ocean basks in its dry season weather, with sun-drenched days and temperatures averaging a moderate 81°F / 27°C. The seasonal trade winds bring a comfortable breeze.

Mahé is the main island but an island hop to neighbouring Praslin and La Digue is a must. You’ll find pristine beaches, such as Anse Lazio and  Anse Source D’Argent, celebrated for their powder-fine sand framed by ancient granite boulders and lush palm trees.

Stay a night or two on La Digue so you can get there early and miss the day trippers that arrive by mid morning.

Don’t miss a trip to Curieuse Island to meet the resident Giant Turtles. Snorkelling and scuba diving opportunities are in abundance.

However, paradise does come with its caveats. The trade winds can bring strong currents and seaweed to some beaches so pick the spots you want to go to in advance.

Additionally, this is peak season so there is an uptick in prices, reflecting the dry weather conditions. Yet despite being the peak tourist season, you can often find secluded beach spots with nobody else around. This makes Seychelles one of the ultimate destinations for a romantic getaway.

16. Morocco

A sensory journey with its bustling souks, stunning architecture, and the Sahara Desert.

One of the best places to travel to in July is Morocco. Just pack plenty of sunscreen and a hat since the sun is strong and the heat is intense. You may also want to avoid camping in the Sahara since the desert is extremely hot in the summer.

However, July is the perfect time to visit beach towns like Taghazout, Sidi Kaouki, and Essaouira. Essaouira is especially nice in July because the local winds are extremely strong. So, this is the perfect time to enjoy fun things to do in Essaouira like surfing or kite surfing. 

July is also a great time to relax by the pool in Marrakech before going hiking in the Atlas Mountains. You could even climb to the top of Mt. Toubkal and enjoy stunning views from atop the tallest mountain in North Africa. 

You could also visit Chefcheoun, Morocco’s famous blue city, and do an incredible hike through Talassemtane National Park to Ackshour Waterfall. Bring your bathing suit so that you can go for a swim at one of the many waterfalls along the trail. 

Finally, July is the perfect time to enjoy fun events like the International Cultural Festival in Asilah and the Festival of Alegria in Chefchaouen.

While the beginning of the year is the best time to visit the west coast of Malaysia, over on the island of Borneo, it is the opposite, as July is the best time to visit for dry, warm weather.

For nature lovers, Borneo is one of the last places on earth to see orangutans in the wild or semi-wild at one of the island’s two orangutan sanctuaries.

A stay in Sabah is a must, where you can visit the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and the Sun Bear Sanctuary. See the orangutans at their feeding platforms and the orphaned babies in the nursery.

July means fruit is abundant on the jungle floor, which encourages the wildlife to come down from the canopy and make an appearance. Traveling to Borneo in July means if there is any rainfall, it is over quickly, and before you know it, the temperature is back up to the mid-30s.

July is also a great month to take a wildlife cruise along the Kinabatangan River to spot pigmy elephants and proboscis monkeys and stay overnight.

As the weather is so good in summer, it is also the perfect time to visit one of the smaller islands, such as Gaya, for a relaxing resort break.

Swim in a turquoise ocean, catch the sun on golden sands and watch the sunset with a cocktail – what could be more perfect than that?

Having lived in Mongolia myself, I can tell you first hand that it is truly a paradise for outdoor and adventure enthusiasts. This country has no shortage of natural beauty but it is quite sparse.

Hence, a road trip in Central Mongolia is the best way to explore its vast and varied landscapes in a concentrated area. If you have more time, venture into the Gobi Desert or the majestic Altai Mountains.

With lower humidity and less chance of rainstorms, July is the perfect time for an island hopping adventure in Fiji. It’s also one of the best months for swimming with manta rays, as well as snorkelling and scuba diving. 

Because July is the best time to visit Fiji, it can be a little busier and more expensive during this month. However, as a country with over 300 remote islands, it’s never one that feels overly crowded!

With so many settings filled with palm-fringed, white sandy beaches and secluded accommodation, you’ll find a slice of heaven!
