Overview of the Delta Riviera Nayarit

Summary of the Marriott Delta Riviera Nayarit

The Delta Riviera Nayarit is one of the newest hotels in the Marriott Bonvoy collection. The resort was existing, but Marriott recently purchased and renovated it.

It’s an all-inclusive, meaning all the food and drinks are included in the nightly rate.

The resort is located in the area of Riviera Nayarit, which is a thirty-minute drive from Puerto Vallarta. Unlike many Mexico resorts, this one is located in the jungle. However, there is private beach access a short shuttle ride away.

Below are some quick facts about this resort. Keep reading further for a more detailed breakdown of the dining, amenities, and service.

Restaurants & Bars at Delta Riviera Nayarit

There are three restaurants and three bars at the Delta Resort. Below, I will describe each of them. But first, let’s talk about the quality of the food and drink. The food is good, not great.

For the price per night and the type of trip I was expecting, the food was completely sufficient. However, a lot of time I travel to experience local food, and I would have been disappointed if I had this expectation.

For drinks, they are plenty strong and well made. Again, a relaxing tropical vacation was what I was going for and this satisfied that need.

Media Luna Bar and Restaurant – This is the pool bar/ restaurant. They have a full bar and any drinks you could think of. For food, there are fajitas, quesadillas, wings, burgers, and other casual food. I actually found the pool restaurant to have some of the best food at the resort.

Komorebi – The onsite Teppanyaki restaurant. The food itself is average, but the experience of the live cooking is so fun! Be sure to come here at least once on your trip.

Huichol – This is the main restaurant that rotates between buffet and al la carte. The breakfast was great, but I found dinner to be underwhelming.

Xaman Bar – the sports bar near the sit-down restaurants. This is a great spot for an after-dinner drink, and has the best cocktails at the resort.

Lobby Bar – The least crowded bar and they make a super delicious welcome drink.

Amenities – Pool, Spa, Gym

One of the highlights of the Delta Hotel Riviera Nayarit is the large waterpark area with waterslides, small pools, and a kids area. It was unfortunately not open when I visited, but I’ve heard great reviews.

Between the water park and the other pools on property, this resort is great for families.

Right now, there are three “normal” pools at the resort. At the main pool area next to the pool bar are two pools- one is large and heated, the other is smaller with ambient heat.

There aren’t many pool chairs in this area, but most people spend the day at the beach, so it isn’t too hard to snag a seat.

The third pool is called the “natural” pool and is on the other side of the resort. Since it’s a bit removed and doesn’t have bar service, it’s much less popular. If you don’t mind getting your own drinks, this is a great pool to avoid crowds.

The other two primary amenities on property are a spa and gym. The spa is nice with many services offered. However, it is not included in the nightly rate.

The gym has plenty of cardio machines and weights, so you can do nearly any workout you want.

Tonati Beach Club

The best feature to the Delta Riviera Nayarit is the private beach club. Since the resort is in the jungle, you have to take a short shuttle ride to get there, but its well worth it. The shuttle runs hourly from 11 am until 6 pm.

At the beach club, there is a restaurant, covered dining area, bar, and beach chairs with umbrellas. The food and drink at the beach club is much better than at the resort. The menu features fresh seafood such as ceviche and tostadas.

When I visited during spring of 2023, the beach club never filled up throughout the day, so you don’t have to worry about getting a chair. The Delta beach club is only accompanied by one other beach club, so it is overall pretty private.

The beach itself has soft white sand and the ocean is great for swimming. Overall, if you are staying at the Delta Riviera Nayarit, I highly recommend spending the day at this beach club.

My Experience at The Delta Marriott Riviera Nayarit

pacific ocean puerto vallarta
Puerto Vallarta

When I visited the Delta All-Inclusive, I really needed a vacation. I was burnt out from work and exhausted.

From the moment I was handed a handcrafted passion fruit margarita during check-in, my stress melted away. The best way to describe my time at the resort is relaxing.

I loved the light and beachy décor of the room and the jungle view from the patio was incredible. I could even spot the ocean in the distance.

My days at the Delta Riviera Nayarit were spent hopping between the pools and beach club, usually with a cocktail in hand.

Yes, the food could have been better or the resort could have had direct beach access. But when I was kicking back under the Puerto Vallarta sun, none of that mattered! I was truly in paradise.

Who is the Delta Hotel Riviera Nayarit for?

The ideal audience for the Delta Riviera Nayarit would be travelers looking for a tranquil and stress-free all-inclusive vacation in a natural, jungle setting. This resort, is perfect for those seeking relaxation and escape from the daily grind.

While it may not offer gourmet dining or direct beach access, it’s paradise for people who prioritize a laid-back experience and enjoy unwinding by the pool or at the beach club with a cocktail in hand.

This resort is great for families or couples that want a relaxing Mexico vacation that is luxurious but won’t break the bank.

Who is the Delta Riviera Nayarit Not For?

However, this hotel won’t be perfect for every traveler. And that’s ok!

If you’re a foodie, looking to explore Mexico’s cuisine, this resort is not for you. In fact, I’d avoid all-inclusives so you can get a more local food experience.

This resort is also not ideal for ultra-luxury travelers. While this resort is a great value and very high-end for the price point, you will be disappointed if you expect 5-star luxury.

Below, I list a few accommodation alternatives that might better suit your tastes.

Getting to the Hotel

As mentioned above, Riviera Nayarit is near the town of Puerto Vallarta. The best way to get to the resort is flying into the PV international airport (PVR). There are direct flights into PVR from many North America cities.

From the airport, it will be an approximately thirty minute drive to the resort. Once you are at the resort, you won’t need a car, so I suggest hiring a car or taxi versus renting one yourself.

When you arrive at the airport, there is a large indoor area just past customs where people will try to sell you on timeshares, excursions, and taxi rides.

Keep moving past this area with a series of “no thank yous.” Once you’re outside the airport, there is an official taxi line where you an get a safe ride to the resort.

If you prefer to avoid this chaos, you can pre-reserve a driving service for around $15 per person. I’ve found this to be the most comfortable option.

Alternatives Hotels in Riviera Nayarit

There are many great luxury hotels near Riviera Nayarit. If you are looking for something more luxurious, I recommend these two resorts.

Note that they will have a significantly higher nightly rate. However, this will get you beach front access, higher end restaurants, and more luxury experiences.

St Regis Punta Mita

This 22 acre beachfront property will cater to all your needs. It features a world-class spa, golf course and adventurous watersports.

There are also six restaurant options and a beautiful pool area. Take advantage of the iconic St Regis butler service to relax throughout your trip.

Four Seasons Punta Mita

Four Seasons properties are world-renowned for their luxury and fine touches; this property lives up to that expectation.

This picturesque property is centered around the beautiful pool area and lazy river. Escape to this resort to escape reality and focus on elevated Mexican cuisine, culture and experiences.

Summary of this Delta by Marriott Riviera Nayarit Review – Is it Worth it?

Favorite Things About the Hotel – My top two favorite things about this resort are the beach club and the nightly price.

Compared to some busier resorts, having a private beach resort is a huge perk. At a nightly price under $400 for two people all inclusive, this resort is a great deal for what you get.

What Could Improve – The food could be a bit better, especially since Mexican food is so good. I’d also prefer if it was beach front, but the shuttle makes this a minor inconvenience.

Food: 2/5

Drinks: 4/5

Rooms: 4/5

Pool: 3/5

Beach: 4/5

Overall: 3.4/5

All in all, I would recommend this hotel for a quiet, romantic weekend trip to Mexico. This resort won’t be for everyone but if you are seeking a mindless, easy, affordable trip, it’s for you.

In fact, I used credit card points to cover the entire cost of my visit. Learn how to stay here for free.
