1. Drive on the Beach

That’s right, you can drive on the beach in Ocean Shores!

Drive along the coast with the windows rolled down to soak in the sounds of the water and the fresh ocean air.

There are access points along the beach where the road simply runs into the sand. Once on the beach, you are free to drive up and down. Obviously, stay far away from people.

In good weather, any car can easily drive on the beach. If it’s rainy, I’d stick to four wheel drive vehicles so you don’t get stuck.

Be sure to be mindful of the environment and wildlife and be sure to leave no trace. Though driving on the beach is allowed and minimally invasive, be aware of your surroundings and practice caution.

2. Walk on the Beach

Hop out of your car and walk along the coast. If you are like me, you will love the feeling of the sand beneath your toes and the sounds of kids splashing in the waves.

Keep an eye out of shells and sea life- we saw many jellyfish and sand dollars scattered on the sand.

3. Hit a Bucket of Balls at the Local Driving Range

Calling all golfers and non-golfers alike. I fall into the latter category but hitting the driving range is a great way to decompress. The driving range is centrally located making it an easy daytime activity.

If you’re really a golf fan, you can play a full round at the Ocean Shores golf course.

4. Horseback Ride on the Beach

You are likely sensing a theme, an Ocean Shores getaway revolves around beach time.

Meet Honey Pearl Ranch on the beach directly in front of the Shilo Inn to embark on a fun beach ride. For the affordable price of under $50 per hour, this is a great adventure for the whole family.

5. Rent Mopeds

Visit Affordable Mopeds to rent scooters to ride around town or on the beach. This sleepy beach town is the perfect place to ride mopeds without the threat of traffic or busy roads.

Plus- where else can you moped on the beach?

When to Visit Ocean Shores

The best time for an ocean shores getaway is June-August when the weather will be warmer and dryer. The Washington coast is notorious for being cold, rainy and a bit grey (not to scare you away).

Visiting in the summer months significantly increases the chances of sun and blue skies.

As with most destinations, shoulder season is less expensive and less crowded. For Ocean Shores, this means May and September-October.

When I just visited at the end of September, I enjoyed the sunshine and blue skies.

Where to Stay in Ocean Shores

Vacation Rental: Ocean Shores is full of cute and charming Airbnb’s and other vacation rentals. There are many condos and houses for rent depending on your group size.

We stayed in a one-bedroom unit at the Nautilus condos. We loved the nautical décor and cozy atmosphere.

Note: Ocean Shores is small but not very walkable. Even though we stayed ~half a mile from all the sites, we still drove everywhere due to the lack of sidewalks

Shilo Inn: One option that is right next to beach access and town is the Shilo Inn. I have not personally stayed here but have heard great things and will likely check it out next time.

Oyhut Bay: South of Ocean Shores is an adorable, planned community called Oyhut Bay. This neighborhood is full of charming cottages with wrap-around porches.

This is the most luxurious place to stay near Ocean Shores. There are also many community amenities such as cafes, restaurants, and sport facilities.

Where to Eat in Ocean Shores

Linda’s Bakery- Grab breakfast to go or dine in at Linda’s bakery to kick your day off. You must try the apple monkey bread.

Once you walk into the bakery you will know why- the smell will make your mouth instantly water. The ham and cheese croissants were perfect to enjoy on the beach as you can see above.

Bennett’s Fish Shack- The long line out the door was an indicator that this place is a local favorite. The fish and chips is fresh, perfectly breaded and absolutely delicious.

The wait staff was extremely friendly and the atmosphere very enjoyable for lunch.

Ocean Beach Roasters- This stop is highly rated for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They were unfortunately closed when I visited but I will definitely check them out next time.

Oyhut Bay Grill Located in the charming Oyhut Bay neighborhood mentioned above, the Oyhut Bay Grill is the best place for an upscale meal in Ocean Shores.

I enjoyed the salmon special and my boyfriend raved over their chicken parmesan. The cocktails were tasty and unique. I would 10/10 go back on my next trip.
