I love the casual style that incorporates a bit of western without feeling like a costume. This Nashville packing list will help you decide what to wear in Nashville and what to pack, to make your preparation easier.

Nashville is a super fun city with a great local culture. Known as “music city,” Nashville is home to country music, Tennessee whiskey, great southern food, and more.

When visiting Nashville, you will need outfits for daytime, nighttime, the pool, and special events such as the opry.

Choosing what to Wear in Nashville During Each Season

As with any destination, what to wear in Nashville will vary by season. The temperature will vary from the 30’s to the 90’s between seasons, changing what you should plan to wear.

The below outfit guides can be adapted for the weather by choosing shorts versus jeans, boots versus sandals, or adding a light jacket.

Winter– Nashville in the winter can be anywhere from freezing to around 50 degrees. Plan to wear a medium-weight jacket, boots, long pants, and layers.

Summer– Nashville summer can be up to 100 degrees. Plan to wear shorts, short dresses, and sandals.

Spring/Fall– The most moderate time to visit Nashville is the spring or summer. Check the forecast before your trip but plan to wear a mix of items from both the above seasons.

This Nashville packing guide is geared toward the spring and fall, but can be easily tweaked for the rest of the year.

What to Wear Out in Nashville on broadway

Nighttime in Nashville is a bit fancier than daytime, but casual compared to most big cities like New York or Las Vegas. The center of nightlife in Nashville is on Broadway, where anything goes for fashion.

Nashville bars typically do not have a dress code. You will see people wearing t-shirts and other people in clubbing dresses.

I recommend bodysuits, bodycon dresses, or rompers with strappy sandals or cowboy boots.

A super easy outfit is a little black dress with black cowboy boots. I also love leather bottoms to dress up an outfit.

What to Wear During the Day in Nashville

During the day in Nashville, you will likely spend your time sightseeing, touring museums, and visiting bars on Broadway. I recommend wearing shorts with a blouse or a casual romper or dress.

These outfits should be comfortable and cute, but don’t need to be very fancy. For footwear, I recommend sneakers or sandals that you can put a lot of miles on and be sure to break in your shoes ahead of time.

All the items in this Nashville outfit ideas collage are shoppable here.

What to Wear to the Grand Ole Opry

My favorite activity in Nashville is going to a show at the Grand Ole Opry. I mean, in music city you need to hear some of the best live country music!

When visiting the Opry, you will see a wide variety of outfits. Some people will be in shorts and t-shirts, and others in fancy dresses. I recommend a casual dress or top with cute shoes to balance comfort with fashion.

The outfits shared here and the daytime outfits can be worn interchangeably. Whatever you wear for the day will also be appropriate for the show.

What to Wear to a Nashville Pool

If you are visiting Nashville during a summer month, you are sure to spend some time at the pool. The above collage shows cute swimwear that is perfect for your Nashville hotel pool.

Shoes to Wear in Nashville

The best shoes for Nashville are anything that you can wear for 8+ hours and 5+ miles in a day. During my trip, we averaged around 15,000 steps per day, so comfort is key.

Some of the best types of shoes to wear in Nashville are comfortable sneakers, sandals, or cowboy boots.

There’s a bit of a controversy over if you should wear cowboy boots in Nashville. I say, go for it!

Especially if you are spending time on Broadway, cowboy boots are super cute and compliment any outfit. If you invest in a good pair and break them in, they are also comfortable.

Cute Cowboy Boots for Nashville

Above, I mentioned that cowboy boots are trendy everywhere. That means they are super trendy for Nashville. A fun pair of boots will easily dress-up an outfit and make it more interesting.

Although a pair of good cowboy boots is a bit of an investment, it will be worth it for the comfort. Also, you will be able to wear them outside of your Nashville trip as well.

If you are visiting Nashville in the summer months, ankle boots are a great option to stay cooler. In the winter, knee highs will work great.

The above collage has cute cowboy boots at a range of price points. However, I discourage you from getting a super cheap pair because they often sacrifice comfort.

Other Shoes to Wear in Nashville

My go-to travel shoe is a simple pair of white sneakers, which will match with nearly any casual Nashville outfit.

In the summer, I recommend bringing a couple pairs of flat sandals that can be worn day to night. In the winter, booties are a great option to stay warmer.

Jacket Ideas to Wear in Nashville

If you are visiting Nashville outside of the summer, a light jacket is a must-pack item. A simple denim jacket or leather jacket is a great staple to throw on over your outfit.

You will likely need a jacket for outdoor activities, then can remove it when inside the hot Nashville bars on Broadway.

Nashville Bachelorette Outfits – For the Bride

Nashville is one of the most popular destinations for a Bachelorette trip. If you’re a bride, these white country-themed clothes are perfect for you!

Although a bit more expensive than shopping your own closet, getting white and themed clothes for a Nashville bachelorette is so much more fun. Plus, you only get one bachelorette party so why not go all out.

Some of the best bridal options for a Nashville bachelorette party are a western romper, beaded cowboy hat, and knee high white cowboy boots.

What NOT to Wear in Nashville

First off, wear what you are comfortable in. This list of what not to wear in Nashville is based on feedback from locals to not look like a “tourist”.

However, if you feel the most comfortable in the below things, absolutely wear them.

High Heels– Nashville is a casual city. Even at night, most people wear booties or flats to the honky tonks. You want to wear shoes that are comfortable to walk and dance in all night long.  The only exception is if you visit a fancier restaurant and won’t be walking much.

Hot Sweaters – The weather in Nashville will vary from season to season and can get quite cold. However, the bars on Broadway are always toasty, so don’t make the mistake of wearing hot clothing. Instead, focus on layers that can be removed when you are inside.

Cowboy Boots or Hats – For a long time, people said not to wear these items. However, now that western boots are trendy everywhere, they are actually a great thing to wear in Nashville.

Also, avoiding cowboy boots isn’t going to keep you from looking like a tourist. If you are on Broadway, you will be surrounded by tourists, so might as well look cute.

Summary of What to Wear in Nashville

Grand Ole Opry House Entrance

Overall, wear what you are comfortable in when you are in Nashville. There are no dress codes in Nashville (that I know of), so you can truly get away with what you want.

If your style is blue jeans and a graphic tee, go for it. If you want to dress up a bit “country,” go for it!

I recommend wearing cute and comfortable pieces that are both functional and fashionable. In the day, this means casual dresses or jeans and tops.

At night, break out bodycon dresses or fitted bodysuits for a nightlife vibe. Don’t forget outfits for special activities like the pool or the opry.
