Since they are so large, the frozen base is layered with granola so there is crunch in every bite. The topping is perfectly sweet with a layer of local honey.

In addition to tasty smoothie bowls, Island Vintage coffee has great coffee and savory foods. I recommend the island latte with macadamia nut and coconut. For a savory bite, the bacon avocado lettuce tomato (BALT) sandwich is fantastic.

I love that they offer some unique toppings such as fresh kiwi and bee pollen. In addition, they have super tasty green juices that don’t taste very “green” (if you know what I mean).

6. Waffle and Berry

What to order: Kireina Hana- 3 piece waffle with 2 Scoops Vanilla ice cream and 3 Scoops Açaí, strawberries, bananas, kiwi and blueberries and whipped cream.

As you could maybe guess from the name, this shop specializes in waffles and (acai) berries. You can even get a waffle topped with blended acai!

I recommend stepping out of your comfort zone and getting a topped waffle. If you want a classic acai bowl, they have a complimentary superfoods mini bar where you can add chai seeds, bee pollen, hemp seeds, goji berries, and cacao nibs to your bowl.

The main draw of Tropical Tribe is that they serve authentic Brazilian acai, which is where acai bowls originated. Tropical tribe started as a food cart and quickly grew into their current storefront.

What to Order: Mana Bowl with a base of frozen acai puree (like a sorbet), topped with granola, local bananas, raw coconut flakes, and local raw honey.

I’ll save you the trouble of reading this entire blog and let you know that the #1 Acai bowl in Oahu is at Hale’iwa Bowls in the North Shore.

The base is a frozen and creamy texture, kind of like an ice cream or sorbet. It’s sweet without being too sweet and has perfectly balanced flavor. The toppings are so fresh and the granola is the best I’ve ever had!

I like my acai bowls to be extra cold, so I love the Mana bowl which has a sorbet texture. If you prefer a smoothie texture, the Hapa bowl is super popular.

Hale’iwa bowls is in a super cute wood shack at the corner of Haleiwa town, making it a great starting point for a day of exploring the North Shore of Oahu.

12. Elsie’s Smoothie Shack

Elsie’s Smoothie Shack serves the best bowls near the Polynesian cultural center. I found the base to be a little icy, but the pineapple on top was amazing! It was super sweet and juicy, which complimented the tart acai.

You can upgrade you have your acai bowl served in a pineapple. This won’t make it taste any better but it will make for an adorable photo opp.

13. Sunrise Shack

The sunrise shack has to be the cutest place to get an acai bowl in Haleiwa. The bright yellow shack with lush mountains behind it is the perfect instagram backdrop.

In addition to being adorable, the Sunrise Shack has amazing acai bowls. The bowls come with pitaya sauce which is made from dragon fruit. The bowls are also heavy on the granola, which is my favorite part.

Be sure to also try the bullet coffee, made with coconut oil and grass-fed butter.

Simple At Home Hawaiian Acai Bowl Recipe

  • 2 frozen Acai berry packs (unsweetened)
  • 1/2 cup frozen mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
  • 1/2 ripe banana
  • 1/4 cup Greek yogurt (or a dairy-free alternative)
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk (or any milk of your choice)
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional, for added sweetness)
  • Toppings of your choice (e.g., granola, sliced banana, sliced strawberries, shredded coconut, chia seeds, sliced almonds, honey)

Directions

  1. Run the Acai berry packs under warm water for a few seconds to slightly thaw them. Break them into smaller chunks if needed.
  2. In a blender, combine the thawed Acai packs, frozen mixed berries, ripe banana, Greek yogurt, almond milk, and honey or maple syrup (if using). Blend until you have a thick, smooth, and creamy consistency. You may need to stop and scrape down the sides of the blender a couple of times to ensure everything is well-mixed.
  3. Taste the mixture and adjust the sweetness by adding more honey or maple syrup if desired. Blend again briefly to incorporate any additional sweetness.
