The simplest packing advice for Mardi Gras is to bring as much purple, yellow, green, and gold clothing as you can.
The best Mardi Gras outfits are a combination of all these colors and fun accessories. Below, I will go into detail of clothing items that work for a casual or night outfit.
However, the simple formula is to get staple clothing items in the theme colors and add accessories.
These can be clothing items you will wear again in your normal life, such as good sneakers, t-shirts, or colored joggers. Since these base items will cost more, I suggest getting items you will wear normally.
To make the outfits more fun, get unique accessories to wear on top. These items are less expensive but make your outfit much more interesting.
If you are traveling in a group, you can pool your accessories to create endless outfit options.

You may be tempted to purchase beads for your Mardi Gras trip. While beads are a staple of Mardi Gras, you will get plenty at the parades.
The parades will throw beads by the bag-full, and you will end up with more than enough.

Common daytime activities in Mardi Gras are sight seeing and parades. For these activities, you can dress casually.
Clothes like t-shirts, sweatshirts, and flannels are great options. For sightseeing, I recommend a more tame outfit, such as jeans and a green and yellow flannel.
For parades, people dress up. I suggest colored pant and top with accessories. In addition, bring a good jacket because it can be quite cold in New Orleans in the winter.

Nightlife Outfit Ideas for Guys
Whether you are going to a jazz club or a bar on Bourbon street, nightlife in New Orleans is pretty casual. A simple outfit is any shirt with a collar and jeans or khakis.
If you prefer to be more subdued, I like the above khaki pants with an olive green shirt. To be more themed, I love the monochromatic look of yellow jeans with the yellow top.
Again, dress up these outfits with the accessories I shared above. If you are going to Bourbon street, I suggest going all out with fun hats, glasses, and other items.
For a jazz club or more classy experience, maybe leave the accessories at home.
