Do’s and Don’t For Disney World October Outfits

Don’t wear costumes if you’re an adult

It’s actually against Disney policy to wear a costume if you’re over 13. This is so people don’t impersonate any of the characters which would be (understandably) confusing for guests.

The only exception is certain Halloween events, such as Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. In general, leave the costume at home to play it safe.

Do Disney Bound as Your Favorite Characters

While it’s against the rules to wear costumes, you can “Disney Bound” as your favorite characters. Disney bounding involves dressing in outfits inspired by Disney characters using everyday clothes.

This fashion trend allows you to subtly pay homage to your favorite characters through color schemes, patterns, and accessories that mimic the character’s look and feel.

For example, if you’re Disney bounding as Ariel from “The Little Mermaid,” you might wear a green skirt to represent her tail, a purple top for her seashell bra, and maybe add a seashell accessory in your hair.

It’s all about capturing the essence of the character in a way that’s wearable and stylish in everyday life, but is not a costume. This is a great way to be in the Halloween spirit of dressing up without violating Disney World’s rules.

Don’t Assume the Weather Will be Sunny and Warm

Although the average temperature in Orlando in October is 75, it can also be wet and rainy or chilly at night. Don’t make the rookie mistake of only packing shorts and tanks, or you may find yourself getting chilly.

Do Pack Layers & Check the Forecast

To combat the unpredictable weather, pack layers that can be added or removed based on the forecast. Some good layering items are a light cardigan, jacket, flannel, or sweatshirt to throw on over your outfit.

Also, a rain coat is a must. Even if there isn’t rain in the forecast, it can change quickly and you’ll be glad you have one. Plus, rain jackets can be great to wear on the water rides.

Don’t Wear Anything Scary or Graphic

Even though Halloween is about everything spooky and scary, Disney World is a family-friendly destination. Leave everything gory, bloody, or scary at home.

Do Wear Halloween-Themed Merch

While you should avoid anything scary, there is a ton of great Disney World Halloween merch. You can find Mickey and friends as zombies, a ghost wearing Mickey ears, or Haunted Mansion shirts.

Below, I share a ton of Disney Halloween shirts and sweatshirts that are cute and kid-friendly.

Disney World October Outfit Ideas & packing List

Dressing for a Disney World vacation is all about balancing comfort and Disney theming, while being prepared for the warm, humid, and unpredictable Orlando weather.

October in Orlando is pretty moderate, with cooler mornings and evenings. There are also small chances of rain showers. For this, I recommend packing layers and a mix between shorts and pants.

October is also very Halloween-themed in Disney World. There are decorations, themed events, and unique attractions for Halloween, so it’s also great to dress for the occasion.

Shirts:

T-shirts are your best friend in October’s warm Orlando weather. They’re cool, comfy, and easy to layer. When it gets a bit cooler, especially early or late in the day, just throw on a light jacket over your tee.

Shirts are also the best way to add a bit of Disney spirit into your outfit. Below, I share some cute Halloween Disney shirt ideas that are super cute and not at all tacky.

Bottoms:

The weather can swing between short and pants weather, so why not pack both? I swear by bike shorts and leggings because they’re super comfortable for all-day wear and go great with any t-shirt.

Jackets:

Orlando in October doesn’t get too cold, so you can skip the heavy stuff. A light denim jacket or a soft sweatshirt works great for layering when it’s cooler in the morning or evening.

And don’t forget a rain jacket – Florida weather can surprise you with a sudden shower, and it’s always better to stay dry.

Shoes:

Good shoes are key. You’ll be on your feet all day, so pick shoes that are comfy and won’t give you blisters.

Adidas Gazelles, Nike Dunks, and Hokas are my favorites because they’re comfy and supportive. Just make sure to wear them in a bit before your trip.

Accessories:

Disney ears add that extra bit of fun to your outfit and are perfect for getting into the Disney spirit.

For carrying your stuff around the park, a backpack or belt bag is the way to go. They’re handy, keep your hands free, and can fit all your essentials.

Other Essentials:

  • Portable Charger – It’s important to keep your phone charged all day since it’s your ticket, planning tool, and camera. I recommend a portable charger because the Disney app can drain your battery quickly.
  • Sunscreen – The Orlando sun can be intense, so pack sunscreen to reapply throughout the day.
  • Hair Tie – My long hair goes crazy on the faster rides, so I always recommend a hair tie to throw it back and keep it out of my face.
  • Refillable Water Bottle – Like most things at Disney, water bottles are very expensive. You can get free ice water at all the restaurants, but the cups are pretty small. I prefer to bring my own water bottle to refill throughout the day.

What to Wear to Disney World for halloween

Part of the fun of visiting a theme park is dressing on theme. I think it’s fun for everyone (even adults) to wear at least a little Mickey gear when visiting.

However, this doesn’t have to be way over the top or costumey. Above, I share super cute shirts, sweatshirts, and Mickey ears that are perfect for the Disney World parks and also perfect for October.

Average Weather in Orlando in October

The average weather in Orlando during the month of October is generally very good. The temperature ranges from around 70°F to 85°F , making it a great time to visit and enjoy outdoor activities.

Since it’s Florida, the humidity is relatively high, so it may feel a bit muggy at times. However, the chance of rainfall is lower compared to the summer months, so you can expect mostly sunny days.

I recommend packing lightweight and breathable clothing, along with sunscreen and a hat, to stay comfortable during your stay in Orlando.

Events in Disney World in October

There are two special events in Disney World in October. If you’re able to, I recommend hitting both:

1. Epcot International Food & Wine Festival (Epcot): Sample different dishes, try international wines, and enjoy live entertainment throughout the park.

2. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (Magic Kingdom): Experience trick-or-treating, special character meet and greets, a vibrant parade, and a Halloween-themed fireworks display. This is the only place that adults can wear costumes at Disney World.

If you are attending these events, I recommend dressing up for them. For food and wine, there is a ton of Epcot merch that is all about eating and drinking. For the Halloween party, definitely get a Disney Halloween shirt or ears (or both).
